Classic Romantic Comedies – Share Your Favorite!

If you’re like me, you love classic romantic comedies!  Sure, I enjoy a good drama just as much as anyone…But when I want to just be entertained, the romantic comedy is the way to go!

Though, with all the movie choices available these days,  sometimes I have a difficult time finding one I want to invest 2 hours watching!  Sometimes, I feel like I have seen everything…even though each year when the Golden Globes or Academy Awards roll around, I am basically clueless.  Maybe I just need to get off Pinterest…

Pink Roses and Romantic Comedies

Anyway, last night I was scrolling through the endless movie list on the DVR.  With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I must have been in a romantic comedy type of mood.  Well, instead of trying out something new, I stumbled upon one of my all time favorites and at that point, there was no question that I would be watching the entire movie…

Favorite Classic Romantic Comedy:

And what’s my all-time favorite romantic comedy?  Well, that would be: Only You!  Seriously, I adore every single thing about this movie.  First of all, the characters are adorable, funny and so perfectly cast…

Although, Only You is basically a predictable love story, it’s also so much more.  It’s a story of adventure, love, hope and a true escape from the real world.  Plus, I love that the movie was filmed in the early 90’s before technology took over our lives.  It allows the characters to immerse themselves in Italian culture and notice the beauty and the magic that we seem to overlook these days while we stare at our electronic devices!  Maybe, that’s part of the reason I love 80s and 90s romantic comedies so much!

In the movie – only days before the main character, Faith (played by Marisa Tomei) is due to get married, she travels through Italy in search of a man whose name she read off a Ouija board when she was a child.  Her sister in-law (played by Bonnie Hunt) accompanies her on this chase through Italy and tries to help Faith stay grounded as she insists on accomplishing this silly goal.

When Faith meets up with Robert Downey Jr.’s character, the chemistry between them is undeniable while their journey takes many twist and turns. What made this movie even more appealing, was they filmed on location in Italy…and the scenery is just breathtaking.  I dare you not to book a trip after watching it!

Venice Italy and Favorite Romantic Comedies

 (Venice, Italy)

In fact, about a year after seeing Only You for the first time, I traveled to Italy and happened to visit the locations seen in the movie.  Now, whenever I catch the movie on TV, I also get to relive that adventurous time of my life.

In the photo above, I’m sitting in the Piazza Navona…at a restaurant similar to the one in the movie.  Where’s Robert Downey, Jr?…

And this photo needs no introduction!

But getting back to the movie, I highly recommend watching Only You if you are looking for a lighthearted, feel-good, somewhat silly love story…with gorgeous scenery.  But make sure your passport is up to date because I see a trip to Italy in your future!

Whenever any of these come on TV, I get caught up every time!
